Dr. Ishan Adhikari MD, MS-HCM is Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology and Neurophysiology from the United States with advanced specialization in Epilepsy, Neuromuscular and Autonomic Disorders. He is USA Board Certified Clinical Neurologist & Neurophysiologist who stands well poised to lead the next era of neurologic treatments ahead in Nepal with more than 18 years of Neurological experience from the USA.
Dr. Adhikari completed his clinical fellowship at NYU Langone School of Medicine, where he learned about the complexities of rare autonomic disorders from world-renowned experts. He then went on to study at the University of Texas Health Science Center, where he specialized in Epilepsy and Neuromuscular Disorders.
Dr. Adhikari’s academic interests include epilepsy and seizure characterization using cutting-edge technologies to combat one of the world’s most stigmatized diseases. He is one of the few Nepali-born Epileptologists who manage epilepsy/seizure disorders, which the WHO estimates affects 1% of the world’s population. Medharma CliniX has advanced electroencephalogram EEG and Nerve Conduction studies NCS including Electromyography EMG to test patients with neurology disorders.
Dr. Adhikari founded the Nepali League Against Epilepsy (NLAE), a South Asian network of health professionals, patients, and families involved in the treatment and management of patients with epilepsy disorders. The League has drawn interest and members from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines, and African countries. The league is a social platform for any patient suffering from a seizure disorder to ask questions directly to experts for social and medical guidance without hesitation, while also collaborating with their regular physicians from their local community.
Dr. Adhikari has also established Muscular Dystrophy Association Nepal (MDAN) in collaboration with international organizations to improve diagnosis and treatment for rare genetic disorders affecting neuromuscular and autonomic disorders such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Myasthenia Gravis, Muscular Dystrophies, and Peripheral Neuropathies. At Medharma CliniX, works are under progress to start the first and only MDA clinic dedicated entirely to MDA group of patients in Nepal.
Dr. Adhikari’s desire to continue training a new generation of healthcare professionals resulted in the creation of the Global Nepali Health & Research Center (GNHRC). GNHRC has established international (US and UK) fellowship training programs for qualified Nepali healthcare professionals in order to improve regional healthcare in South Asia through research and training.
